What this tells you

A marketplace payout is not your income. The amount credited to your bank includes GST that belongs to the government, and leaves out TCS, TDS and the GST on fees, which you can claim back later.

This calculator separates the two. It shows the cash you will receive for one order, the credits you can claim, and what you actually keep after fees, so you can see your real take rate and price each listing with that in mind.

Assumptions used

  • The marketplace collects GST TCS of 0.5% on the net taxable value of your sales (0.25% CGST + 0.25% SGST/UTGST within a state, 0.5% IGST between states). No TCS is collected on 0% (nil-rated) products.
  • The marketplace deducts income-tax TDS of 0.1% on your sales.
  • TDS is worked out on the sale value excluding GST (where GST is shown separately on the invoice).
  • No TDS applies if you are an individual or HUF, your sales through that marketplace in the tax year are within ₹5,00,000, and you have given your PAN or Aadhaar.
  • TDS credit appears in Form 168 (earlier Form 26AS) and AIS.
  • GST on marketplace fees is 18% unless you change it for a fee.
  • Product GST rate choices: 0%, 5%, 18%, 40%, or a custom rate.
  • You are a resident, regular GST-registered taxpayer and have given your PAN to the marketplace.
  • Fees are entered per order, excluding GST, from your own fee rate card. No marketplace fee rates are built in, because they vary by category and change often.
  • One order is looked at on its own: returns, cancellations, penalties, advertising charges and reimbursements are not included.
  • Figures are rounded to the nearest rupee for display only; the working uses exact values.

How this is calculated

  1. Taxable value = selling price ÷ (1 + product GST rate). The difference is the GST due on the sale.
  2. Fees = commission + fixed fee + shipping + any other fees, all excluding GST. Commission is worked out on the price including GST or on the taxable value, whichever you choose.
  3. GST on fees = each fee × its GST rate (default 18%).
  4. GST TCS = taxable value × 0.5%, split equally into CGST and SGST/UTGST within a state, or charged as IGST between states. Nil for 0% products.
  5. Income-tax TDS = the sale value excluding GST (where GST is shown separately on the invoice) × 0.1%, or nil if the small-seller exemption applies.
  6. Cash credited = selling price − fees − GST on fees − TCS − TDS.
  7. Credits you can claim later = TCS + TDS + GST on fees (only if you can claim that ITC).
  8. What you keep = taxable value − fees − any GST on fees you cannot claim back.
  9. Effective take rate = (fees + GST on fees you cannot claim back) ÷ taxable value.
  10. Check: cash credited + credits later − GST due on the sale = what you keep. The calculator shows this check under the results.

Worked examples

Example 1: A ₹1,180 order, fees claimed back as ITC

Selling price ₹1,180 including 18% GST, sold within the same state. 10% commission charged on the price including GST, a ₹20 fixed fee and ₹60 shipping. The seller claims ITC on the GST charged on these fees. GST on fees is taken at 18%, TCS at 0.5% and TDS at 0.1%.

Questions sellers ask

Why is the amount credited to my bank more than what I keep?

The marketplace pays you the full price including GST, less its fees, the GST on those fees, TCS and TDS. Part of that credit is the GST you collected from the customer, which you owe to the government. "What you keep" removes that GST and adds back the credits you can claim, so it is the figure to compare against your costs.

What is TCS and how do I get it back?

Under GST, the marketplace collects TCS of 0.5% on the net value of your taxable sales and deposits it against your GSTIN. It appears in your electronic cash ledger on the GST portal once the marketplace files its return, and you can use it to pay your GST. No TCS is collected on 0% (nil-rated) products.

What is TDS on marketplace sales and where does it show?

The marketplace deducts income-tax TDS of 0.1% on your sales, worked out on the sale value excluding GST (where GST is shown separately on the invoice). It is deposited against your PAN and shows in Form 168 (earlier Form 26AS) and AIS. You claim it when you file your income-tax return, so it reduces the tax you pay rather than being a cost.

Do I have to pay TDS if I am a small seller?

No TDS is deducted if you are an individual or HUF, your sales through that marketplace in the tax year are within ₹5,00,000, and you have given the marketplace your PAN or Aadhaar. Switch on the small-seller option under Advanced options to see the effect.

Can I claim the GST charged on marketplace fees?

Usually yes, if you are GST-registered and the fee invoice carries your GSTIN, since the fees are a business expense. The calculator assumes GST of 18% on fees unless you change it. If you cannot claim it, turn off the ITC option and that GST is treated as a cost.

Is commission charged on the price including GST or excluding it?

It depends on the marketplace and category. Many fee rate cards apply commission to the selling price including GST, which is the default here. Compare one order in your settlement report with both options under Advanced options to see which matches.

Why does my settlement report not match this estimate exactly?

Settlement reports group orders by payout cycle and can include returns, cancellations, penalties, ad charges, reimbursements and rounding that a single-order estimate does not. Differences in TCS and TDS usually come from returns netted in a later month or from GSTIN and PAN details mapped wrongly on the marketplace.
