Can I afford this?

Try one extra payment — a stock order, a machine, a deposit — without adding it to the plan.

2 Nov 2026 to 31 Jan 2027.

What this tells you

A 13-week cash flow forecast shows what your bank balance will be at the end of each week of the next quarter, from the money you expect to receive and the payments you expect to make. It shows the lowest point and any week that runs short, early enough to do something about it.

It also answers the question that comes up before every large stock order: can the business afford it, and in which week would it hurt?

Assumptions used

  • Each week runs Monday to Sunday; the first week starts on the Monday you choose.
  • A weekly payment is counted once in every week. A monthly payment on a day after the month’s last day (such as the 31st) falls on the last day.
  • Payments are counted in the week of their date; the order within a week does not matter, so a dip in the middle of a week is not shown.
  • Tax due dates come from the Compliance Calendar as the rules give them, with no shift for weekends or holidays. You enter the amounts.
  • Marketplace payouts: the money in each week is the sales of the week that many weeks earlier.
  • Blank amounts count as nil. Interest, bank charges and GST credits are included only if you enter them.

How this is calculated

  1. Week 1 opens with your opening bank balance.
  2. Each payment is placed in the week its date falls in: one-off on its date; weekly in every week; every 2 weeks on its first date and every 14 days after; monthly on the day you choose.
  3. Closing balance = opening + money in − money out. The next week opens with that closing balance.
  4. Lowest balance = the smallest closing balance of the 13 weeks; a week is flagged if it closes below zero, or below your minimum cash buffer.
  5. Can I afford this? = the same 13 weeks with one extra payment out on the date you enter.

Worked examples

Example: a D2C brand from 2 November 2026

Start Monday 2 November 2026 with ₹5,00,000 in the bank. Money in: D2C prepaid settlements ₹1,20,000 and COD remittances ₹80,000 every week, an Amazon payout of ₹1,50,000 every 2 weeks from 9 November, and a quick-commerce PO payment of ₹3,00,000 on 18 December. Money out: ads ₹90,000 every week; payroll ₹2,40,000 on the 1st; rent ₹50,000 on the 5th; a ₹8,00,000 supplier PO (30% on 18 November, 70% on 23 December); GST ₹1,10,000 on the 20th; TDS ₹20,000 on the 7th; advance tax ₹1,50,000 on 15 December; a loan EMI of ₹60,000 on the 10th.

W13 · 25 Jan 2027₹2,00,000₹90,000₹9,80,000

The lowest closing balance is ₹4,80,000 in the week of 28 Dec 2026, when December’s payroll and the weekly ads go out. No week closes below zero.

Example: can it afford ₹6,00,000 on 28 Dec 2026?

Not without a shortfall. From that week every closing balance falls by ₹6,00,000: W9 −₹1,20,000 · W10 ₹10,000 · W11 ₹1,20,000 · W12 ₹2,70,000 · W13 ₹3,80,000. The week of 28 Dec 2026 closes at −₹1,20,000, so the payment would need to move to a later week or be funded.

Questions sellers ask

Why 13 weeks?

Thirteen weeks is one quarter: long enough to see a stock order, a quarter’s tax dates and a slow month coming, and short enough that the figures are your real expected payments rather than guesses. Lenders and investors often ask for a 13-week cash forecast for the same reason.

I am profitable, so why can my bank balance still run short?

Profit counts a sale when you make it; cash arrives when you are paid. Marketplace payouts, COD remittances and quick-commerce purchase orders can take days or weeks to reach the bank, while stock, ads, salaries and taxes are paid on fixed dates. A business can be profitable on paper and still be short of cash in a particular week.

How do I enter payouts that arrive on a cycle?

Enter each channel the way it pays you: weekly for gateways that settle every week, every 2 weeks for a fortnightly marketplace payout, monthly on a day for a monthly settlement, or a one-off date for a purchase-order payment. If a marketplace pays a fixed number of weeks after the sale, turn on “Add marketplace payouts” under Advanced options and enter the delay and the weekly sales.

Work out what each marketplace order pays you

Where do the tax dates come from?

From the same rules as our Ecommerce Compliance Calendar: GSTR-3B on the 20th for monthly filers; for quarterly (QRMP) filers, the payment on the 25th for the first two months of each quarter and GSTR-3B on the 22nd or 24th after the quarter, depending on the state; TDS on the 7th, except TDS deducted in March, which is due on 30 April; and advance tax on 15 June, 15 September, 15 December and 15 March. If the government extends a date and the calendar is updated, the new date is used. You enter the amounts.

See every due date in the Compliance Calendar

What should I do when a week shows a shortfall?

Look at the largest payments out in that week first. Common options are to move a stock order’s balance or a supplier payment to a later week, ask for an earlier payout or shorter credit terms, hold back discretionary spending such as ads, or arrange a working-capital limit before the week arrives. Use “Can I afford this?” to test a payment before you commit to it.

How often should I update the plan?

Once a week. Each Monday, change the first week to your actual bank balance, replace the forecast with what was actually received and paid, and add any new orders or bills. The plan is saved in this browser; export it as a .json file to keep a copy or to open it on another device.
