Note:
Destroying 200 aged units reverses ₹14,400 of input GST (Section 17(5)(h), CGST Act, 2017). Selling stock at a discount, or to an unrelated buyer for liquidation, is a supply for a price: GST is charged on that price and the input tax credit is kept, with no reversal. What this tells you

FBA can bring more Prime and Buy Box sales, but it charges fulfilment fees, inbound shipping and storage on every unit held. Easy Ship leaves the stock with you and charges a weight-handling fee an order.

Enter one product’s price, fees and stock to see the monthly contribution on each, how many more units FBA must sell to match Easy Ship, and what to do with stock that has aged in the fulfilment centre.

Assumptions used

  • Product GST rate choices: 0%, 5%, 12%, 18%, 40%, or a custom rate.
  • All fees are entered excluding GST; GST on fees is assumed claimed as input tax credit.
  • Storage is the average units held in FBA × volume per unit × the monthly storage fee per cubic foot.
  • The Easy Ship and FBA comparison uses the same monthly units, unless you work out the units FBA needs.
  • A clearance discount is assumed to cut the referral fee in the same proportion and clear the aged stock in one month.
  • Working-capital interest (illustrative default 14% a year) is charged on the landed cost for the days stock sits in FBA: units held ÷ units sold a month × 365 ÷ 12.
  • The expected Prime uplift (illustrative default 15%) and the out-of-state GSTIN cost are your own estimates; the cost a state starts at ₹0 for you to enter.
  • Aged stock destroyed or written off: input GST reversed (Section 17(5)(h), CGST Act, 2017). Selling stock at a discount, or to an unrelated buyer for liquidation, is a supply for a price: GST is charged on that price and the input tax credit is kept, with no reversal. (Section 15(1), CGST Act, 2017 (as on 2 November 2026))
  • Figures are rounded for display only; the working uses exact values.

How this is calculated

  1. Net revenue a unit = selling price ÷ (1 + GST rate).
  2. Easy Ship a unit = net revenue − landed cost − referral and closing fee − weight-handling fee − packing. A month = × units sold.
  3. FBA a unit before storage = net revenue − landed cost − referral and closing fee − FBA fee − inbound shipping − working-capital interest (landed cost × days in FBA ÷ 365 × annual rate).
  4. Storage a month = units held × cubic feet a unit × storage fee per cubic foot. Compliance = out-of-state GSTINs × cost a state. FBA a month = units sold × FBA a unit − storage − compliance.
  5. Units FBA needs = (Easy Ship a month + storage + compliance) ÷ FBA a unit before storage. Prime lift needed = units needed ÷ units sold − 1.
  6. Projected FBA a month = units sold × (1 + expected uplift) × FBA a unit − storage − compliance.
  7. Aged stock, a unit: hold = FBA a unit − months to clear × cubic feet × aged storage fee; discount = the FBA unit figure at the discounted price and referral fee; removal = liquidation value − landed cost − removal fee; destroy = − landed cost − removal fee − input GST reversed (landed cost × GST rate).

Worked examples

Example: 300 units a month at ₹1,180

18% GST, landed cost ₹400, referral and closing fee ₹160. Easy Ship: weight handling ₹78, packing ₹25. FBA: fee ₹86, inbound ₹8, 0.2 cu.ft a unit, 600 units held, storage ₹50 per cu.ft.

  • Easy Ship: ₹337.00 a unit, ₹1,01,100.00 a month.
  • FBA: ₹336.67 a unit before storage, storage ₹6,000.00 (₹20.00 a unit sold), ₹95,000.00 a month.
  • FBA needs 319 units a month, a 6.0% Prime lift, to match Easy Ship.

Example 2: working-capital interest, two extra state GSTINs and a 20.0% Prime uplift

500 units a month; Easy Ship ₹180.00 a unit (₹90,000.00 a month); FBA ₹165.00 a unit before interest. Landed cost ₹300, 36.5 days in FBA at 14.0% a year; 2 extra state GSTINs at ₹2,500 a month each (entered for this example).

  • Interest ₹4.20 a unit, so FBA ₹160.80 a unit; compliance ₹5,000.00 a month.
  • Break-even: (₹90,000.00 + ₹5,000.00) ÷ ₹160.80 = 591 units, a 18.2% uplift.
  • At 600 units: ₹91,480.00 a month, ₹1,480.00 more than Easy Ship.

Example: 200 aged units

Aged storage ₹225 per cu.ft a month, 4 months to clear at full price, a 20% clearance discount, removal fee ₹20, liquidation at ₹400.

  • Hold: ₹166.00 a unit.
  • Discount now: ₹178.00 a unit, freeing ₹1,15,600.00 of cash.
  • Removal and liquidation: −₹20.00 a unit.
  • Destroy or write off: −₹492.00 a unit, with ₹14,400.00 of input GST reversed on 200 units.

Questions sellers ask

Where do I find my FBA and Easy Ship fees?

In Seller Central, the fee preview for each product shows the referral, closing, weight-handling and FBA fulfilment fees. Your settlement reports show what was actually charged. Enter all fees excluding GST.

Why does FBA need more sales to match Easy Ship?

FBA charges storage on every unit held in the fulfilment centre, whether it sells or not. The extra Prime and Buy Box sales must cover that storage before FBA earns more than shipping the orders yourself.

What is the volume of my product in cubic feet?

Use the cm option and enter the packed length, breadth and height. The calculator divides L × B × H in cm by 28,316.8466 to get cubic feet.

Which stock counts as aged?

Stock that has sat in the fulfilment centre long enough to attract an aged-inventory surcharge on top of the monthly storage fee. Enter the combined monthly charge per cubic foot from your inventory reports.

Is it better to discount or remove aged stock?

It depends on your figures. The calculator compares holding until it sells, a one-off discount to clear it in a month, and a removal order with offline liquidation, a unit.
